With our Mission Statement in mind, figure on how to keep your job on time and on budget. It is important to first name what you want exactly, be exact to avoid variables. This will give you a bench mark to start from.
Depending on what you are going to be doing, pick a designer, architect and contractor you feel you can work with easily and whom you trust.
Now, you have some budget in mind that may or may not fit your description, so the two must meet in the middle. The process is to add or subtract money, and/or, change your scope of work until budget meets the description of work.
Two things will change your scope of work, first the unforeseen and secondly "while your at it's" (adding new work and such). I have found in my 32 years of doing construction that you WILL have either unforeseen or "while your at it's" or both while doing your project.
Figure at least 10%, and I found on the average 25%, soooo . . allow for that in your budget. With an exact description and budget matched you can now get started on that home of your dreams!

Tips To Do In House To Save $
Here are some rather simple tips to do that will both save you money and add value to your home -
1.Window Replacements save a lot on heating and cooling cost and tend to pay for themselves within a few months.
2. Insulation in the attic will cut down on heating and cooling cost.
3. Add a "Whole House Fan" and you will not have to use your Air Conditioner as much. 4. Changing out all of your light bulbs to the compact flourescent types.
5. Put in ceiling fans and use them properly and your heating and cooling costs will be less.
a. When it is hot have the fan turned to suck the cold air from low in the room, up past you...
b.When it is cold have the fan turned to blow the hot air from high in the room, down onto you.
